Hi, I’m Richard. I make my living as a drummer & drum teacher.

I OBSESS ABOUT HOW TO DEVELOP CREATIVE FREEDOM BEHIND THE DRUMS.

My drum lessons will show you how to take your drumming to the next level. By using a systematic approach, you will develop your technical skills & musical vocabulary.

Let’s explore your journey.

Choose Where You Want To Start:

Listen to why technical giant Thomas Lang recommends The Practice Log.

“This book is a perfect tool for all musicians to streamline their practicing. It will help you focus your practice, work with goals in mind and practice more efficiently. The book sets you up to pursue your ambitions with a clear plan and a proven method.

If you ever felt that your approach to practicing was too random and disorganized, then you need Richard Sandström’s The Practice Log to increase your practicing results on a daily basis.”

Winner of Best Clinician/Educator in Modern Drummer Magazine, 2018 poll.

A common question I get from students is how to develop the ability to move as effortlessly as possible behind the drums, although not often using those exact words. To answer this interesting question (and super-fun topic to dive into), I decided to record a free video series that breaks down this art form. The exercises in this course are VERY systematically delivered, giving you a step-by-step guide on how to develop your technical facility around the drums.

Practicing is hard, no matter how disciplined you consider yourself to be. We all need as much help as we can get. To make your journey easier, help you progress as fast as possible and have more fun, you can now download a free eBook with detailed instructions and a step-by-step guide on how to make it all clearer and easier to manage. You can print the eBook and use it for writing on. That is actually the way it is meant to be used. The eBook also includes a practice schedule you can use for writing what exercises you will practicing on during the coming week, as well as when you will practice. The idea is that you should print out a new page of the practice schedule every week.

A formula/method you can use to work out any polyrhythm of your choice. My goal was to shed some light to the “dark magic” kind of rumors that polyrhythms have. Learning polyrhythms will make your drum life both easier and certainly more exciting. If you decide to invest your time in them, they will open up new doors in your playing. Doors you probably never knew existed.

It was time for the world to see a blog with a different angle. I wanted a place where drummers could find quality drum lessons in a different format. ‘The Drum Lesson Blog’ is that place, and it’s where you can check out my free drum lessons.
